Schwaben-Südwest - The motorcycle control group has existed at the Swabian South / West police headquarters since 2018.
In the past season, the officers checked over 2,500 two-wheelers and raised more than 1,200 complaints.
In total, the officers checked 2,640 motorcycles between April 1 and October 31, which is 269 more than in the previous year (2,371). The total complaint rate was around 46 percent. The absolute number was 1228 violations (+ 231 compared to 2020). The officers recorded 24 criminal offenses (+ twelve) and 508 administrative offenses (+ 119). In the area of behavioral violations, the officers intensified their controls, so that this area accounted for around 44 percent of all complaints. These included, for example, 177 overtaking violations and 75 speed violations. They prevented a total of 116 motorcycles from continuing their journey because the officers found serious deficiencies in the safety area.
The emergency services only allowed a large number of other drivers to continue their journey to the next workshop. The operating license for 253 motorcycles had expired, 90 times due to safety-related violations and 50 times due to manipulation of exhaust emissions and noise. In the area of technology violations, the officers voiced around 56 percent of all complaints.
The importance of the work of the motorcycle control group can be seen in the number of traffic accidents in which motorized two-wheelers are involved.
The number of two-wheelers killed has risen dramatically; the Presidium recorded a total of six fatal accidents in 2020; this year, as of the beginning of November, there are already eleven.
Both the total number of traffic accidents and the number of traffic accidents with injuries are roughly the same as in the previous year.
