Mittenwald - The secret of the covered square on the station square has been revealed.

The President of the State Parliament, Ilse Aigner, recently helped to unveil the Red Cube.

In addition to the 22 squares that have already been set up in Munich as satellite landmarks, it is intended to mark the 23 places where the Munich University of Applied Sciences, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, was and is still working.

What does all of this have to do with Mittenwald? Because the local civil engineer and structural engineer Wolfgang Schwind was a graduate of the Technical University of Munich, designed the walk-in telescope on the Karwendel with the team of architects Steinert and, with his groundbreaking research, decisively changed the European and German snow load norms. "Dear Senator Schwind", President Aigner paid tribute to the 74-year-old who was awarded this title by the Central Association of German Engineers. As President of the Munich University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr. Martin Leitner that the TH Munich can look back on a successful academic education.

“The cube is intended as a symbol of recognition to convey our work to the outside world. Praise to Mayor Enrico Corongiu and the community for having found such a great place for the art object with a view of the Karwendel telescope, which was also designed by Schwind as a structural engineer ”. District Administrator Anton Speer described the installation of the cube as a special day for the region. “Mittenwald is home to the snow architect Schwind. As a graduate of the TH Munich he is an absolute figurehead. Therefore great praise for his valuable work ”. The professional laudation was given by Prof. Dr. Christian Seiler from the Faculty of Civil Engineering: “As Mister Schnee and with your evaluations, you are the pioneer when it comes to snow loads and DIN standards. Personally, I am pleased that you have been selected to represent the university.

Mayor Enrico Corongiu had already praised the specialist Schwind when he was greeted.

“You have succeeded in using resources more sensibly.

Chapeau Mr. Schwind and congratulations to the TH Munich ”.

After the ceremony in the station hall, which was musically framed by the Rathaus-Musi with Heinz and Josef Stieglmeier, Toni Sprenger and Toni Sponsel, Town Hall Chief Corongiu asked President Aigner, structural engineer Schwind and Professors Leitner and Seiler for an entry in the Golden Book the market town of Mittenwald.

“Who can write this beautiful handwriting?” Asked President Aigner and was told by Office Manager Hermann Baier that this was thanks to Franz Lutz, who had learned it correctly “.
