M+, which is positioned as Asia's first contemporary visual culture museum, finally debuted under constant demand and officially unveiled next Friday (12th).

From time to time, West Kowloon’s management competes with Tate Modern in London, UK and Pompidou Art Center in Paris, France. The future direction is still to be seen. Can evoke the cultural identity of Hong Kong people.

In an interview with "Hong Kong 01", the curator Peng Qiyun said that the visual culture of Hong Kong is nurtured from a unique environment of diverse mix, and it also integrates the exchanges and collisions of China and the West. It also demonstrates innovation and flexibility within constraints. "A lot of things are only available in Happened in the context of Hong Kong", and we hope that the audience will re-explore Hong Kong from another angle.

The curator Peng Qiyun said earlier that the team started preparing for the exhibition three years ago. During this period, there was no need to adjust the exhibits or change the direction of the exhibition due to the National Security Law, nor did it suffer any political pressure.

"Hong Kong: Beyond Here", located in the exhibition hall of the underground lobby, uses art, graphic design, architecture and movies to outline the unique Hong Kong story from multiple angles.

The door of the Kowloon emperor's calligraphy opened, "reappearing" the icon of popular culture, Peng Qiyun pointed out, "Even if you don't know art, you will know it."

Lu Shoukun's works carry the banner

At the corner of the exhibition, new-style ink paintings hang high, forming a world of its own.

After the domestic turmoil after the war, the leader of the New Ink and Wash Movement led by Lu Shoukun broke the traditional school style and merged abstract expression and free will into the traditional ink and wash medium.

Peng Qiyun pointed out, "This exhibition focuses on the origin of Hong Kong's visual culture. There are many things that can only happen in the Hong Kong background." The mainland was relatively closed at that time, and intellectuals came from the south to gather together to develop an innovative artistic language while inheriting tradition.

Many disciples under Lu Shoukun's teachings followed suit. The famous graphic designer Jin Daiqiang is also an example. "I hope the audience will cherish this kind of innovation."

The story of Hong Kong is the same, and flexibility is the spirit of Hong Kong people.

From art to architecture, from design to film, the exhibition goes back to the visual culture of Hong Kong from the 1960s to the millennium. "Hong Kong is the same. Faced with the constraints of residence, it can still innovate and maintain its own uniqueness." said Peng Qiyun, Hong Kong’s Geographical culture and historical identity constitute a unique cultural landscape. It can also enter the international stage, absorb foreign cultures, and also export influences. She described it as "Hybrid" (multi-mix), "The atmosphere is open, and the walk is so fast. , Also full of possibilities."

Throughout the exhibition, some of the exhibits seem to have been familiar with each other, or have been publicly displayed in other local museums. Peng Qiyun said that she has paid attention to the same behavior when curating the exhibition. She admitted that "all things are similar, and the authors are the same", and there is coordination with each other, but M+ Positioned as an international museum, it will not only take into account local audiences, but also face the world. It will approach from an Asian perspective and present Hong Kong on the international stage.

At the end of the exhibition, a set of digital works "Front and Back and Left and Right", a collection of well-known Hong Kong films "2046", "The Thief of the Moon", etc., and foreign language films set in Hong Kong include clips from "Ghost in the Shell", "Ten "Nian" also occupies a seat, recreating the night view of the top of the mountain, and the art furniture exhibited has a clear political orientation. Will you worry about external dissent?

She responded that all creators were born in this era and are also influenced by society. It is hoped that visitors will focus on the work itself and view it with an open attitude.

Rethinking the official housing policy from the perspective; the old fragments of the Kowloon Walled City that have passed away with the years are reproduced, with performance artist Huang Guocai’s "Drifting Home", M+ commissioned work, and Zhang Zhiqiang’s "Transformed Snail House", which outlines this congestion in different time and space. Peng Qiyun said that "this exhibition is an open story, and the exhibits are all related to the theme."

One week before the opening of M+, the museum is busy up and down, and is also making the final sprint. Peng Qiqiu joined M+ for seven and a half years, gestating and witnessing the birth with her own hands. It is difficult to say, "I am so grateful for this opportunity." She worked at the University of Hong Kong Art Museum and transferred to work in the largest museum in Hong Kong. She bluntly said that the challenges were coming one after another.
