“The UK is offering to help Canada defend the Arctic,”
Radio Canada recently reported, while showing a Royal Navy submarine in the ice at the North Pole. London offers its expertise and military resources to Ottawa to help it maintain its sovereignty in the Far North. In an interview with Radio Canada, the Chief of Staff of the British Army, General Nick Carter, offered to
"help Canada do what it has to do as an arctic country ( …). I believe that we have the military means, especially in maritime matters, and knowledge that could be useful to Canada. I also think that this collaboration would be advantageous for both countries ”.
The UK would then deploy its nuclear submarines to the North Pole to counter incursions from China and Russia.
Professor of International Relations at Carleton University in Ottawa, Elinor Sloan says:
