A matter of priority: when does middle school get an elevator?

The Murnau municipal councils have completed the first round of budget consultations.

The focus of the debate on Thursday evening was the “Accessible Middle School” project.

This will presumably be decided on Monday, November 8th.

Murnau

- An elevator should go into the Murnau Christoph-Probst-Mittelschule.

That would be a big step in terms of accessibility.

But when should the market municipality start the project?

At the beginning of the budget deliberations, this point took up a lot of space.

Chamberlain Josef Brückner had pushed the project back in the list of priorities.

According to the proposal, planning will begin after 2024 and installation from 2026. The costs are estimated at 300,000 euros.

Skate park on the priority list

CSU councilor Dr. Michael Rapp did not agree with a postponement at all. "The schools have always been important to us," emphasized the deputy councilor. The ex-mayor was “a bit surprised” that the construction of a skater park was given priority 1 in the budget draft of the finance department. That means: planning in 2022, implementation in 2022/2023. Veronika Jones (Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen) said: “We were also surprised.” She thinks that the middle school project “urgently needs to be pushed very far upwards”. That is how Franz Neuner (CSU) saw it. From his point of view, one should “under no circumstances save on children who already have to live with a handicap”. Social affairs officer Felix Burger (SPD) took the same line: When it comes to participation, there are “no compromises” for him.

In a survey by the children's and youth representatives, many had wanted a skate park. “That is why we took up the topic,” explained Mayor Rolf Beuting (ÖDP / Citizens' Forum). Rudolf Utzschneider, parliamentary group spokesman for the Christian Socialists, shook his head. It cannot be that an initiative proposes a project and it ends up on the list of priorities. According to Kämmerer Brückner, the reason for this is that, in this case, money from the EU funding program Leader beckons. The current funding period ends in 2022. If Markt Murnau would like a grant, it would have to apply for funding in 2022 and call up funds.

But why did the barrier-free expansion of the middle school slip down the list of priorities?

Kämmerer Brückner stated that the community's financial resources were finite.

The reserves are shrinking and will soon be close to the minimum amount.

More and more loans would affect the efficiency of the municipality, said the treasurer.

According to him, there is no technical reason for the downgrading.

Limited capacity

Mayor Beuting also pointed out the efficiency of the community.

It is important to "bring these in line with the projects that we have on our radar".

In addition, the town hall chief drew attention to the limited capacities in the building authority.

“The local council is free to rearrange the priorities.

What doesn't work is to move several projects to priority 1.

Unfortunately, we cannot do everything at the same time, neither financially nor in terms of work. "

Brückner wants to calculate the "Barrier-free Middle School" project again until the next budget consultation (Monday, November 8th, 7 pm, culture and conference center).

Then there is a vote.

Phillip Zoepf, group spokesman for Mehr Bewegen, thinks: "300,000 euros, that's not a monster investment."

And the bay?

The redesign of the Murnau Bay used to be on the list of priorities.

Not any longer longer.

Maria Schägger, parliamentary group spokeswoman for the Free Voters, thinks it's a “shame”.

“The skate park is on the list from zero to one hundred, and the bay, where many hours have been put into it, disappears completely.” It is an “important place”, the community is finally called Murnau am Staffelsee.

The bay is currently no longer on the priority list.

However, funds have been earmarked for this elsewhere in the budget.

Meanwhile, the ravages of time are gnawing at the cemetery wall.

“You have to do something,” affirmed Brückner.

The construction is to be renovated step by step in the coming years.
