The ministerial committee in charge of following up the service and development situation in Deir Ezzor today toured a number of projects that are being implemented.
The committee, headed by the Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources, Eng. Bassam Tohme, accompanied by the Minister of State for Investment Affairs Muhammad Fayez Al-Barsha, was briefed on the service and living conditions, the movement of markets in the city of Al-Mayadin, the maintenance work and the isolation of the main channels in the third sector government irrigation project in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, the maintenance project of the municipal slaughterhouse in the industrial district, and the restoration project. Rehabilitation of the Baath Bridge, the rehabilitation of the National Hospital, the project to replace the sewage network in the Hamidiya neighborhood, the rehabilitation works of the road extending from the Mufti Mosque to the Baath Bridge, and the rehabilitation project for the Corniche of Mr. President.
The head of the city council, Thaer Al-Ali, stated that most of the city’s residents have returned to their homes and work, as they currently number more than 130,000 citizens. All basic services have been provided to them, government departments have been activated, and a number of service and development projects are being implemented, related to removing rubble, rehabilitating schools, hospitals, and networks. Sanitation, streets, parks and squares to meet the needs of the increasing return of the people.
The Director of Education, Jassim Al-Fraih, stated that the number of schools opened in Al-Mayadin reached 62 schools for all stages, comprising more than 22,000 male and female students, and work is currently underway to rehabilitate 5 schools that will enter service soon.
The Director of the General Establishment for Land Reclamation, Eng. Rabie Al-Ali, indicated that work is currently underway to maintain the main and subsidiary channels and isolate the water intake channel in the third and fifth sectors, given that we are currently in the period of stopping irrigation between the summer and winter seasons, pointing out that the decrease in water intake is a result of the low level of the Euphrates River. It required several measures to be taken, including isolation operations and work within the water limit on the fields to match the quantities of water and the agricultural plan, and the installation of drainage wells and isolating water drains, noting that the cadres of the Corporation are working to their full capacity to secure irrigation water for the lands covered by irrigation in the third and fifth sectors, which irrigate about 15,000 hectares Of agricultural land in the eastern countryside of the province.
The governor of Deir ez-Zor, Fadel Najjar, and a number of members of the People's Assembly participated in the tour.
