The terminally ill from Walpertskirchen would like to thank his carers - collect donations and a video.

Wartenberg / Walpertskirchen - The diagnosis that turned Karl Weiß 'life upside down almost exactly two years ago is clear: The Walpertskirchener has no chance. As our newspaper reported almost three months ago, a glioblastoma is growing in his head. A brain tumor that comes back no matter how often you remove it. Only 14 percent of patients survive the first two years after diagnosis. What to do in the face of death Mopping up, even thinking of suicide? That is far from Karl Weiß. He wants to return the favor for the humanity that accompanies him on his final journey through life. It's his last mission.

In the conversation about our first report, the 62-year-old expressed the hope of getting enough financial support to be able to donate a therapy device to the Wartenberg Clinic through its support association, the Freundeskreis.

The sympathy as a result of our article is great.

The lion's share of the 4300 euros required is provided by a sponsor who wants to remain anonymous.

Weiß left the clinic's palliative care unit ten weeks ago, and for some time the father of two adult children is cared for at home by his wife Monika, his sister and an outpatient nursing service.

However, the effort is becoming too great, and Weiss has been living in the hospice in Vilsbiburg for almost two weeks.

His wish to die at home is not fulfilled.

No matter whether nurses, therapists, doctors, kitchen, service or cleaning staff - he is infinitely grateful to all of them. They all helped him to find an attitude towards an imminent death. When Weiß, who worked in construction management until his diagnosis, now returns to the Wartenberg palliative care unit to hand over the donations, you quickly realize what exactly he is grateful for. Patient advisor Barbara Schubert and Ella Schaller, physiotherapist in the palliative care unit, smile when they see Weiß, hug him, ask what ailments he has and exchange nice words. “It's good to see you again,” says Weiß. There are touching moments.

“I want people to see what is being done in nursing,” emphasizes the terminally ill. Despite the stressful work, the patients are lovingly cared for. "That helped me so much psychologically and organizationally," says Weiß, whose image of man has changed. In addition to the donation, he is also campaigning for better working conditions for nurses. With the help of the clinic staff, he shot a video in which he pointed out the situation in the nursing area. It will soon be posted on the clinic's Instagram profile, “klinik_wartenberg”. “And I'm definitely interested in other sponsors because I've been to other clinics,” says Weiß, and his wife Monika has to smile.

His donation to the clinic is a matrix mobile that is to be used throughout the clinic, for example during seizures. The device supports the cells to get into the normal vibration range and thus promotes relaxation. “The staff was speechless,” reports therapist Schaller of the joy about the donation. Such a device, which can be easily transported in a suitcase, has not yet existed in the clinic. "It is also gentle on the therapist's hands and penetrates deep into the tissue," explains Monika Weiß. And you don't have to touch patients roughly where they are already bruised, says Schaller. After three operations, Weiss decided against a fourth operation. In July he suffered an epileptic seizure and a cerebral haemorrhage, which resulted in hemiplegia. But the support he receives despite all these strokes of fate is unlikely to help him. "Death is not the most important thing, but the accompaniment to it," says Weiß.
