The successive demolition of the bridge built in 1963 began in 2017, the planned new building should actually be completely finished by 2022.

However, due to delays, this date was initially postponed to 2026. However, traffic continued until some time ago.

In June 2021, however, the bridge was closed after concrete parts fell on the federal highway 263 below.

After the demolition, the bridge is to be rebuilt by 2023.

The superstructure on a pillar of the structure had sunk in mid-June, and chunks of concrete had fallen onto the street and sidewalk.

The bridge has been completely closed, and tough traffic jams form regularly in the state capital.

The main station is as good as cut off from train traffic, as almost all of the tracks run under the bridge.

The current gap in Autobahn 66 will be closed with a new building in 2023 at the earliest, according to the plans of the Federal Autobahn GmbH.

As demolition master Reisch explained at the beginning of October, the south bridge is to be brought down with a so-called collapse blast, the north bridge is then to lay on the rubble by tipping blast.

Several hundred drill holes were necessary on each part of the bridge.

Reisch has already conducted numerous spectacular demolitions, including the fall of the 117-meter-high AfE Tower in Frankfurt in 2014.

This year, Reisch Sprengtechnik GmbH from Apfeldorf in Bavaria brought, among other things, the 46-meter-high winding tower of a former mine in Datteln, North Rhine-Westphalia, and the bridge “20.

Anniversary of the GDR ”in Brandenburg an der Havel.
