Füssen - The building committee unanimously rejected the construction of a mobile home park on the Achmühle on Tuesday.

Füssen - The building committee unanimously rejected the construction of a mobile home park on the Achmühle on Tuesday.

Especially since the outbreak of the Corona crisis, vacationing with your own mobile home has been a trend among Germans. Although the number of overnight stays by foreign guests on German campsites in the summer of 2020 fell by 49.8 percent, according to the Federal Statistical Office, the campsites still registered 6.1 percent more overnight stays than in the previous year. At the same time, the authorities recorded 41.4 percent more motorhome registrations last year than in the previous year. These trends are likely to have continued this year. The city of Füssen is also feeling this more and more. Nevertheless, the building committee unanimously rejected the construction of a mobile home park at the Achmühle car park on Tuesday evening.

The idea of building a car park for mobile homes west of the B16 at the Achmühle is not entirely new. As early as 2002 and 2015, corresponding preliminary building inquiries for a space with 32 parking spaces had been received by the city administration, reported Armin Angeringer, head of the building authority. At the time, the administration fundamentally supported the plans and the necessary preparation of a development plan (B-Plan) including changes to the land use plan (FNP). "For whatever reasons, however, the applicants never followed up."

According to the informal preliminary building request, the mobile home park is to be built a few meters north of the Achmühle municipal car park, Angeringer announced. According to this, 46 parking spaces for mobile homes are to be built on a U-shaped area. The necessary infrastructure for water and sewage supply, waste disposal, sanitary facilities with showers and toilets and charging stations for e-bikes are also planned. In the north of the area, a screen wall is to be built up.

"There is a certain quality standard," says Angeringer.

Discussions with Füssen Tourism and Marketing (FTM) also showed, according to the head of the office, that the park is compatible with the municipality's new accommodation concept (the district messenger reported several times).

It must be clarified, however, whether the district office still approves the construction in the landscape protection area, as it did a few years ago, and whether the developer can provide evidence of sufficient compensation areas.

Cars instead of meadows

For Dr. Martin Metzger (BfF), however, does not consider such a system there: “If we agree, we are sending a completely wrong signal!” He warned in the subsequent discussion and referred to the required surface sealing. “We close a meadow and then there are cars.” In addition, it is to be feared that the users of the space will drive into the city by vehicle because of its seclusion. The other two motorhome parking spaces, on the other hand, are within walking distance. "We're just getting more traffic into the city!"

Mayor Maximilian Eichstetter (CSU) referred in this connection to the planned shuttle bus from the Achmühle to the city.

However, Corona has so far prevented a test of this offer.

Nonetheless, he admitted that weighing up the plan had not been easy.

“It's borderline”, he said, “but after all the pros and cons, it is feasible”.

In addition, similar plans have already been advocated in the past.

In addition: "We have great needs and are discussing whether we should put the mobile homes on valuable commercial space," he said.

However, Metzger did not want to accept that similar plans had been approved years ago and referred to climate change.

Concern for the landscape

SPD city councilor Erich Nieberle also spoke out against the preliminary construction request.

“We have two big seats and we're just getting more traffic in,” he said.

Jürgen Doser from the Free Voters (FW), on the other hand, addressed the municipal car park in Achmühle.

“The parking lot makes extreme deficits.” So why build a new parking lot next door?

Dr.

Christoph Böhm (CSU).

“We're competing with ourselves,” he criticized.

UBL councilor Magnus Peresson was concerned about the landscape.

After all, this is about entering the city.

“I'm interested in aesthetics.

Do we want to screw them up? ”He asked.

Concerns about the access to the B16 also expressed Jürgen Doser and Thomas Meiler (CSU).

"The exit is dangerous!" Emphasized the former, while Meiler spoke of an absurdity.

Despite the opposition from the parliamentary groups, Eichstetter advocated first clarifying open questions with the client and not putting the project aside at this point.

However, Dr.

Metzger: "If we don't want that, we shouldn't impose even more costs on the building client," he said, in favor of rejecting the preliminary building inquiry.

The committee unanimously followed his suggestion.
