Academics from the kingdom will attend a conference that will deal with the impact of the Hebrew heritage on Morocco • One of the researchers: "Hopefully there will be many collaborations, it is beneficial and positive for our countries"

Following the normalization agreement with Morocco, an academic conference will be held today (Sunday) for the first time in Israel, which will include a number of senior academics who came especially from the kingdom.

The conference will be held in the village of Maccabiah and Bar-Ilan University, and will deal with the influence of the Hebrew heritage on Morocco.

The event, led by the Dahan Center for the Heritage of Eastern Jewry, will flood civilian connections and political, cultural and social issues between Israel and Morocco, and will be held under the title "Culture and Jewish Law in Morocco."

Among the conference participants: Dr. Shimon Ohayon, Prof. Moshe Amar, Prof. Fried El Basha, Prof. Shimon Sharvit, Dr. Abdullah Ozitan, Avraham Elharar and many more.

The Dahan Center has been working on the event for many months with the aim of revealing the uniqueness of Hebrew culture and law in Morocco.

During the conference, the researchers will deal with the complex pendulum in the history of relations between the Moroccan people and the Jews, which ranged from difficult times to the golden age in the 20th century, Hebrew law in the Moroccan legal system and innovations in the rabbinical regulations amended in Morocco.

"Peace - a natural step"

"In contrast to the cold peace between us and Egypt and Jordan, where the Egyptian and Jordanian streets are hostile to Israel, in the case of Morocco it is about relations between the authorities and especially warm relations between citizens," said Dr. Shimon Ohayon, director of the Eastern Jewry Center. With the participation of researchers from Morocco and Israel.

"When it comes to a peace agreement with Morocco, it is a natural step."

"I am very happy to be here. All these years there have been unofficial ties with Israel, but now there is no reason not to move forward. The decision to normalize came from the king, and almost everyone is happy about it." Only the extreme left and extreme Islam are among the opponents.

"I hope there will be many collaborations. It is beneficial and positive for our countries," Ulhaj added.

"Judaism and Jews in Morocco have a long history. Relations between Muslims, barbarians and Jews are very important to the identity of Morocco," he explained and demonstrated.

"Our constitution says that Hebrew is part of the identity and has a heuristic, philosophical and anthropological influence of Hebrew. For example, among the barbarians one can find many biblical names," Ulhaj concluded.
