On Thursday, the Foreign Ministry issued a travel warning to travelers to Ethiopia, in the shadow of the Ethiopian government's decision to declare a state of emergency in the country.

According to the wording of the warning, the Foreign Ministry recommends that Israelis consider avoiding non-essential travel, and those in it - shorten their stay.

"The ministry recommends taking extra vigilance and being regularly updated on the progress of the fighting in the country in general and the situation in the capital in particular," the warning read.

"The State Department recommends avoiding arriving or staying in conflict areas, and obeying local guidelines regarding curfew hours, gatherings and traffic restrictions."

Unlike the United States, which called on its citizens to leave Ethiopia immediately and began evacuating them, the Israeli Foreign Ministry only advises Israelis to "consider shortening their stay."

In recent days there has been a further deterioration in the fighting in Ethiopia.

The rebels from Tigray managed to win several battles with Ethiopian army forces and even declared that they were preparing for an assault on the capital Addis Ababa.

The security situation in the country is extremely shaky and the US and other countries in the West have begun to evacuate their citizens from Ethiopia.
