On October 28, Jelin Barbosa Brandau realized something was wrong after hearing her cry at her family home in Brockton, Massachusetts.
When she went to see what had happened she saw her father screaming and her mother lying unconscious, and a short time later he too collapsed.
The condition was caused by a generator that did not work properly and emitted carbon monoxide, a substance that has no odor and is also colorless, so it is difficult to detect it in time.
She took his cell phone and tried to call the emergency center to call an ambulance and fire department but he was locked up.
"So I released the lock using my dad's face," she told the local television network.
She then took her little sister outside to call the neighbors.
These two moves saved the family.
"She was so smart, it was very scary, and if she hadn't called right away I don't know what would have happened," the mother said.
