Ettal

- There are still a few question marks.

But they should give way soon.

Vanessa Voit wants to replace them with exclamation marks.

Ettal's mayor is in good spirits.

The new kindergarten is within reach.

There are subsidies, assures the town hall chief.

Among other things, state funds.

How much, behind that is the first question mark.

The joy about the grant outweighs it.

When the groundbreaking will take place, Voit does not want to speculate about that either.

The specifications are currently being drawn up, and the necessary tenders are due to go ahead this year.

Then she hopes that construction will start soon on the new building, which will be built on a plot of land near the monastery economy.

The third question remains: How much will the new kindergarten cost?

"We still have to wait there," says Voit.

Until the tenders are closed.

One million euros are in the room, at least calculated Josef Pössinger, the former mayor, at the end of his term of office in 2019 with this sum.

He laid the foundation stone back then.

Except for the sewage, all pipes and channels have been laid

But even if a few questions remain unanswered, a lot is already certain: the connections have already been laid. Electricity and DSL cables are just waiting to be put into operation. “We only have to take care of the wastewater,” says Voit. The local council has given the go-ahead. Due to the sensitive area near the monastery, there were a few things to consider during the planning process. A photovoltaic system is installed on the roof. “Really difficult to implement next to a listed building,” admits Voit. In consultation with the Lower Monument Protection Authority, an agreement was reached on a facing side of the roof, outside the line of sight. “We still have enough sunlight available.” Experts have calculated that the investment for the 25 solar panels will pay for itself in around 13 years. This means that there is no need for a power-intensive air heat pump. The district office has also given the green light for this.

So there is not much left in the way.

The new building is urgently needed.

It is well known that the Pfarrstrolche kindergarten has been housed in the main wing of the monastery since the 1960s.

Anything but a suitable place.

The structure of the building deteriorates, the railings and stairs are not suitable for children.

In winter, because of the snow on the roof, children even had to take a detour through the catacombs to get into the rooms.

Exciting, but not really sure.

Up to 30 children can be looked after in the future

The monastery made the preferred area near the recycling center available on long-term lease. Sunny, quiet, close to the forest. The new facility has an operating permit for 30 children. “Five of them are allowed to be between one and three years old,” says Voit. 19 are currently being looked after, three of them under three years of age. But Ettal is also growing. “We have a good birth rate,” says Voit. The numbers speak a different language at the moment: the population recently fell from 752 to 732. But that is not necessarily a meaningful forecast. “We have a high fluctuation in the hospitality and hotel industry.” The current count was made during the Corona crisis, when the tourist businesses were not allowed to open at all. In the long term, Ettal is forecasting population growth of around 1.5 percent.“We have to offer early childhood care sooner or later,” explains Voit. The staff remains the same, as does the operator, the parish.
