Following reports that Egyptian Intelligence Minister Abbas Kamel is expected to visit Israel later this month, Palestinian sources told the London-based Al-Arab newspaper that Egypt had drafted a prisoner exchange deal.
According to the sources, during the last visit of the Hamas delegation to Cairo, all issues were discussed, including a long-term truce, when Israel gifted it with the completion of a prisoner exchange deal.
The sources claimed that Egypt was about to receive a tape from Hamas, and may even have received it, which indicates the situation of the Israeli prisoners in Gaza.
In a conversation with Al-Arab, the sources added that the Egyptian head of intelligence estimates that the gap between former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and current prime minister Naftali Bennett is "heaven and earth."
He therefore believes there is an opportunity to settle some of the issues that have been delayed in recent years.
It will be recalled that the person in charge of the Hamas prisoner file claimed over the weekend that no progress had been made on the issue and that Israel had not forwarded any wording to Hamas.
