A large photovoltaic system is planned near Grüntegernbach.

The Dorfen city council discussed the sense and nonsense of solar power generation on agricultural land for a long time.

Dorfen

- The Dorfen city council meeting on Wednesday degenerated into a global debate on energy policy. A farmer from Wies bei Grüntegernbach wants to give up his dairy farming and set up a gigantic open space photovoltaic system: 15 hectares south of Lake Lainer are to be covered with collectors. In the end, the city council voted to create the building regulations for this project. As with similar applications before, the four Landliste representatives braced themselves against a new solar power field. You and AfD representative Mirko Kamolz voted no.

Martin Heilmeier (LDW) expressed fundamental "doubts about photovoltaics". There are no storage technologies, and in the end Germany will have to buy coal or nuclear power from abroad. In addition, too much land would be withdrawn from food production. “Today the shelves in the supermarkets are still full. But the death of farmers is still going to be very bad, ”prophesied Heilmeier.

Several city councilors compared these factual claims with their own facts - which information was correct could not be clarified at the meeting. Martin Greimel (CSU) denounced the massive cultivation of maize for biogas plants. “If so, then these are the areas that are withdrawn from food production.” In relation to the area, the efficiency of photovoltaics is 20 times better than that of biogas plants, added Heiner Müller-Ermann (SPD). In addition, he disagreed with storage technologies (“This is massive in development”) and electricity imports (“We have an export surplus of eight percent”). Gerald Forstmaier (GAL) again pointed out that untouched meadows for protected bird species are created under elevated solar panels.

Renate Döllel (LDW), who has just been sworn in, spoke in detail at her first meeting.

“I think the size is amazing.

That's 20 football pitches, ”she said, raising questions about the rain retention capacity of such areas on slopes and about wild corridors.

Both are the subject of the construction control procedure, if the respective specialist authorities are heard, replied building authority manager Franz Wandinger.

Farmer and CSU councilor Sabine Berger did not agree to the complaint about the loss of land.

She advocated “nothing to get in the way of the applicant”.

After all, the added value remains in the region.

In addition, the solar panels do not have to stand forever, and the land can be used again for agriculture if necessary.

Aside from the major energy policy, local criteria were voted on in the city council.

The municipal building authorities had given a positive verdict with regard to several protected objects - for example biotopes or flood plains.

The Agriculture Office had assessed the quality of the soil.

The creditworthiness of the arable and grassland is accordingly in the middle range.

The current consumption has not yet been clarified.

The energy produced cannot be transported via the network of the local energy supplier Bauer Netz.

However, the applicant is thinking of setting up a private line for the connection.

He reported that in an interview with our newspaper.
