These images from the Geological and Seismic Institute of Spain show how lava from the Cumbre Vieja volcano, on the Spanish island of La Palma, breaks through and creates a veritable river of liquid fire that literally splits the earth in two.
According to local authorities, the visible activity in the cone of the volcano is highly variable, and the level of volcanic tremor decreased in the last 24 hours.
