Ice skating in the middle of Bad Wiessee: That would have been nice.

But because of the high costs and many imponderables, the majority of the municipal council decided against an artificial ice rink.

Bad Wiessee -

helping Bad Wiessee to have an ice rink again has been a matter close to the heart of CSU spokesman Florian Sareiter for years.

But where there is room for natural ice, nature conservation stands in the way.

Sareiter's idea of laying artificial ice sheets seemed feasible.

As reported, different locations should be checked.

Areas on the lake promenade, on the parking deck of the casino and at the play arena were in play.

Most recently, the considerations focused on the tennis court with tribune at the play arena.

Mayor Robert Kühn (SPD) presented the specific offers to the municipal council in a closed session - after all, it was a matter of signing a contract with the provider.

"Costs and benefits are disproportionate"

But it did not get to that. The majority of the municipal council voted against the artificial ice rink. “There is no relationship between costs and benefits,” explains Kühn. It would have cost a good 40,000 euros to rent the records for three months. A purchase would have been much more expensive at around 200,000 euros. The synthetic panels alone would not be enough. An ice rink includes music and food, and insurance is also required, says Kühn. “The whole thing should have hands and feet.” It would certainly be cheaper to create a smaller area, but that in turn would not meet expectations, the mayor makes it clear: “If we put three plates there, people ask us what they are doing with them should. "I enjoy being together in a sufficiently large space, when some do quiet laps on runners and others play an ice hockey match or ice stock sport. "We want the whole range."

Corona creates imponderables

But it is not just the costs that are a headache.

In view of the incidence, it is currently not foreseeable how the artificial ice rink can be used at all.

“There should be access controls,” says Kühn.

His conclusion: "There are too many unknowns involved." The topic was discussed in the municipal council - unlike in previous years - jointly and fact-oriented, assures Kühn.

They looked for a solution together "openly and honestly".

Sareiter is looking for alternatives

However, Sareiter is not entirely in agreement with the decision. "For me it would have been worth a try," says the CSU spokesman. In his view, the community spends more money on nonsensical things than the ice rink costs. The subject is far from off the table for him. “Only the records were rejected,” he says. Now it's a matter of finding other variants. For Sareiter, the obvious idea is to find sponsors with perimeter advertising. He thinks it wouldn't be difficult to get local traders to support it. In addition, the community could demand a small contribution from the users of the ice rink. The current calculation does not contain any sponsoring, use should be free of charge. Sareiter does not want to write off the idea of creating a natural ice rink either.

One thing is clear, however: there will be no ice rink in Bad Wiessee this winter.

“Once again,” sighs Sareiter.

But he stays tuned: "That will not be shelved now."
