The feature film, Happening In Your Absence, celebrates a dramatic art that has been absent from the Syrian screen for decades, which is the diodrama through the film's story that revolves around two characters and within one place.
The film, produced by the General Film Organization, written and scripted by Samer Muhammad Ismail, directed by Seif Subai’i, was shown as part of the events accompanying the Syrian Book Fair, followed by an audience of cinema lovers and visitors to the exhibition.
The film, in which the two main roles were played by the actors Yazan Al-Khalil and the Lebanese woman, Ruba Zaarour, talks about the suffering of the Syrian people from the repercussions of the war that we have lived through over the past years with a symbolic abuse that intensifies many crises and tries to search for solutions to them, presenting a message of complete integration among all components of Syrian society based on love for the continuity of life .
Regarding the screening of the film within the activities of the book fair, the writer Ismail said in a statement to SANA that the presence of cinema alongside the book is a very important matter, pointing out that Syrian films have achieved a lot at the level of international film festivals, and at the same time they are present in the mass performances of the Syrian audience in various cultural events.
Regarding the idea of who happens in your absence, Ismail explained that the film presents a review of the war in a neutral manner and we tried to present something different in this regard in terms of story, image, drama and actor management, in the hope that it would satisfy the Syrian audience after its mass shows in Damascus and other governorates.
