A relief ship has rescued 800 illegal immigrants who were stranded in the Mediterranean.
And the Associated Press quoted the German organization (CI) as saying that the Italian authorities had allowed an aid ship belonging to it to dock in Trapani, on the island of Sicily, with about 800 migrants rescued at sea, including hundreds of minors and five pregnant women, on board.
Half of the migrants were rescued from drowning by a wooden boat, while the rest were rescued in separate operations, the organization said.
Meanwhile, the relief ship "Ocean Viking" operated by the organization "SOS Mediterranean" with 308 people on board is waiting for permission to dock at a port on the southern Italian island of Lampedusa.
It is noteworthy that the number of migrants who have ventured across the Mediterranean this year has risen to more than 54,000, and Italy is one of the main entry points to Europe for migrants.
