Iraqi security forces announced early Sunday that the country's prime minister, Mustafa al-Khazimi, had been subjected to a failed assassination attempt using a suicide bomber.
According to the security forces, the UAV tried to explode in al-Khajimi's residence in the government district of Baghdad's green area. Iraqi security forces subsequently took emergency measures to secure the prime minister.
Following the assassination attempt, al-Khajimi tweeted that he was in good condition and that he was calling for a calm for Iraq.
Al-Khajimi added that "the treacherous missiles will not soften the determination of the believers and will not shake their hair in the steadfast stand of our security forces who guard the security of the people, rights and the law."
According to reports from Iraq, the prime minister's residence was hit by a UAV and Katyusha, which led to five wounded members of his security guard.
