Bomb threats at multiple universities lead to evacuations in various areas of the country

The universities of Cleveland, Ohio and Columbia determined that the threats were not credible. Brown and Cornell are still investigating the reports, which came two days after the Yale evacuations for the same reason.


Several universities around the country are on alert after receiving multiple bomb threats this Sunday, according to authorities.

Among

the institutes that are being completely or partially evacuated due to the threats

are the University of Miami and Cleveland State University, in Ohio;

Columbia and Cornell Universities in New York and Brown University in Rhode Island.

Yale University in Connecticut received a threat on Friday, which was later declared unfounded.

The Ohio University Police Department determined this Sunday afternoon that

a bomb threat on the institute's main campus was not credible

after conducting a comprehensive review of the facilities.

In Ithaca, New York, authorities evacuated several buildings from Cornell University's central campus after receiving a credible bomb threat.

The Law School and the Goldwin Smith and Kennedy classrooms were evacuated.

Students and the general public were asked to avoid the area while the police searched these places.

SWAT units of the police special tactics teams arrived at the scene.

Columbia University reported that the New York Police are already investigating the bomb reports within their main campus in Manhattan and asked the community to avoid the area while the threat is investigated.

At around 5:00 PM ET, Columbia University authorities reported that the threat had been determined as non-credible, thus determining that it was safe to reopen the facility.

Officials from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, sent a text alert to students stating that police were searching "various buildings on campus that involve a bomb threat."

Last Friday in New Haven, police cordoned off several downtown blocks and

brought bomb-sniffing dogs to the area where several Yale University campuses are located

.

Authorities received the bomb alert through a phone call to the New Haven Police Department main line.

New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker emphasized that the call had not been made through the 911 emergency number, which can only be made from inside the city.
