Yael Arad was today (Sunday) officially elected chairman of the Olympic Committee and will replace Yigal Carmi, who has served in the position since 2013.
"The vision I bring is first and foremost achievements, we have a lot more to do. We have a good infrastructure, and we in the system need to dare and bring results and rise to new heights. Women have no monopoly on management, but they do not fall for any man. More women run more athletes, girls "Training and coaching. Until now, no woman was at the head of the association and no former athlete was. It's time for friends."
Thus, the winner of the silver medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, European champion and former world runner-up, who in fact was also the only contender for the position, will be the first to serve as chair of the Olympic Committee, having to date served only men (seven in total).
