Mitry-Mory: after the principal has been sidelined, parents and teachers fear the start of the school year at Langevin college

The incidents at Paul-Langevin college in the days leading up to the All Saints holidays resulted in the withdrawal, at least prov

Is the principal of Paul-Langevin college in Mitry-Mory (Seine-et-Marne) the tree that hides the forest?

The repeated firing of fireworks and smoke bombs in the school grounds before the holidays cost the head of the establishment his place, who was excluded for a few weeks.

"The Thursday before the holidays, he was summoned by the rector of the academy of Créteil after another day of incidents, explains Julien Savi, member of the departmental office of Snes-FSU, on site on Thursday with the mobile teams of academic inspection. The next day, the assistant principal announced to the teachers that he had

decided to take a step back and that he would not be present at the start of the school year!

"

If the official version does not mention a final departure, teachers and parents of students do not have any illusions.

"Either the academic inspectorate will look for someone to take over, a bit like a game of musical chairs, or it will ask a neighboring school principal to supervise the college," recalls Julien Savi who points to the finger of recruitment concerns for this post.

Otherwise, it will call on a person in its ranks like the principal of school life but that remains unlikely because, usually, it is an emergency solution for fifteen days at most.

I rather think that the academy gave itself the holidays of All Saints to find a stable replacement and not to do DIY.

"

"Some teachers on sick leave will surely come back"

In the ranks of professors, it is relief that predominates.

And this despite the uncertainty that reigns around the replacement of the principal.

Many of them criticized the headteacher for his laxity and a lack of sanctions.

A supposed laxity which would have pushed them to go beyond their teaching function to transform themselves into supervising in order to fill the deficiencies of the establishment.

“Last year, there had already been a lot of concerns with a right of withdrawal, strikes, interventions at the rectorate, says Julien Savi.

The situation had become very tense in the establishment and several teachers were on the verge of breaking down.

Some had taken sick leave because it was becoming unmanageable in the hallways.

They will surely come back.

"

Sébastien Carpentier, whose daughter is educated at the Paul-Langevin college, has the feeling that the students were ultimately "hostages" to this situation: "We have a great lack of teachers in this establishment with up to 40 hours of lessons lost since then. the start of the year for some students.

This is the first year in which we find ourselves with such a number of absent or arrested teachers so that questioned the climate inside the college.

"

Parents demand more and above all trained supervisors

Present among the parents of students who gathered in front of the establishment before participating in a meeting with the inspection and local elected officials on Friday, October 22, Sébastien Carpentier pleads for an increase in the number of supervisors. But also better training for the latter: “The educational assistants (AED) would speak badly to the students because they are tired and exhausted but nothing was mentioned during the meeting concerning the problems of school life. Dispatching the academy's mobile security teams remains complicated and is only a palliative remedy, where a curative solution is needed. "

This request is made all the more urgent as a new building will open on the grounds of the college in January where only three supervisors keep an eye on the 600 full-time students currently.

“It's a very important college for us.

There will soon be two playgrounds to watch with this extension of ten classes, underlines Xavier Vanderbise (LR), vice-president in charge of colleges at the departmental council.

This situation and these incidents justify the forthcoming establishment of mediators in the Seine-et-Marne districts.

"

While waiting for a possible increase in the number of supervisors, several disciplinary councils will take place at the start of the school year in connection with the incidents that occurred before the All Saints holiday.
