President Cyril Ramaphosa was heckled in Soweto on November 1, while he was casting his ballot in the ballot box for the municipal elections.
Confident, he had not lost face so far.
“We know that we have not responded to the aspirations of our populations.
People are right to complain.
We know the problems, but this time we will correct them, ”
he said as he left the polling station.
Even if it remains the leading party in the country, winning eight of the nine South African provinces, the ANC (African National Congress) is learning from its retreat.
With 46.5% of the vote, Nelson Mandela's party had its worst score since the end of apartheid.
He will have to learn the lessons of this election and learn to manage municipalities in coalition with the opposition.
The results did not really surprise.
The country is regularly shaken by demonstrations where the populations demand access to basic services: water, electricity, garbage collection ...
