On the North Frisian coast and in the Hamburg Elbe area, it will occur up to two meters higher than the mean flood. The danger of storm surges exists until shortly after 6 p.m. on Sunday evening. Torrent warning in Hamburg: Police give advice to the citizens
The police advised in Hamburg to avoid lower-lying places such as the port, HafenCity and the areas near the Elbe and to avoid them widely.
Houses should also be secured from the water there and cars should be parked in higher areas.
The Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency also stated that significantly higher water levels on the German North Sea coast can still be expected on the night of Monday (November 8).
According to the Lower Saxony State Agency for Water Management, Coastal Protection and Nature Conservation (NLWKN), light storm surges in autumn and winter are not uncommon.
According to the authority, such slight floods are not a major challenge for coastal protection, as reported by the NDR.
