A boy of almost 2 years old died Saturday after being shot in the head on Interstate 880 in Oakland, California, while he and his family were driving home.
According to reports from the local television channel KNTV, little Jasper Wu was traveling back to his home in Fremont, from San Francisco, in a white Lexus sedan driven by his mother "
when the car was suddenly hit by gunshots,
" reported the California Highway. Patrol (CHP).
Sgt. Raúl González told the local San Francisco Chronicle that detectives believe the shooting occurred northbound and that "the shots moved south and a stray bullet hit the boy," according to a preliminary investigation.
The bullet hit the head of the minor, who was taken to the Benioff children's hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The family is already receiving support from the local Asian-American community, according to KNTV television.

His family has changed forever.
Their lives are absolutely shattered and destroyed because we have not been able to protect our people in our city and our state at all," said Hudson Liao of the Asians Are Strong organization.
Authorities added that their detectives are asking for the public's help in investigating the shooting.
