David Loyal, 64, who was killed yesterday (Saturday) in a bicycle accident, considered leaving his hobby ten years ago after a recent accident in which two members of his cycling group were killed.
Despite this, he returned to sports, says his daughter, Noa Loyal.
"You can not tell a person not to do the thing that makes him happy," she said.
"After every accident there were a few years where he significantly reduced training, but he always came back."
Noa says the sport burned in the bones of her father, a dentist by profession.
"For the last 20 years he has competed in countless competitions. He has been in marathons and the Iron Man. After every competition he would say it was the last gap, but as long as his legs kept dragging, his head refused to give up."
The Loyal family refuses to digest what happened.
"We are not there yet at all," says the daughter, "my father would go out cycling every Saturday - 100-150 km.
This time it turned out that this coming Friday he was supposed to participate in the Israman competition in Tiberias.
We closed B & Bs for the whole family, all the brothers and grandchildren.
We were supposed to be together all weekend in Tiberias.
That will not happen again. "

Noa says that before the competition, Loyal managed to bake cookies, and packed them in closed bags for all the children and grandchildren "that we will have this weekend in Tiberias." At this point, she says, the family is not dealing with the offending driver. "We need to bury my father and mourn him. When the time comes, we will deal with that as well."
Loyal's close friend, Gil Troigot, told Walla! Who met Loyal 17 years ago. "We met in a sports activity in the country. I trained in triathlon and David joined me. Chemistry was immediately formed between us. He was a walking encyclopedia. Apart from being a specialist doctor, he was well versed in all existing sports."
Troygot said the two trained together for thousands of hours. "He was a very dear friend to me, an extraordinary man. In recent years he has sold his clinic in Rishon Lezion and worked as a gum doctor in Periphery. David was an extraordinary person. This is a very big loss, not just for me."

11 deaths since the beginning of the year
Troigot points an accusing finger at the driving culture in the country.
"Because I participated with David in a lot of competitions around the world, we also knew a different driving culture," he says, "what is happening here is extraordinary. We are a very violent company."
Another friend of Loyal, Ofer Rotem, said: "David is the one who introduced me to this world of sports, educated me and I had an amazing mentor in this field. He had an extraordinary passion for sports. He was a humble man at an extraordinary level. It is hard to hear that he is not. He was a charming man, a father of glory. Sad. "
Since the beginning of the year, 11 cyclists have been killed on the country's roads, twice as many as last year.
In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of road riders following the global trend, which has also spread in Israel of sports such as triathlon, Iron Man and more.
But just as the sport is gaining popularity, the budget of the National Road Safety Authority has suffered a profound cut, and from NIS 550 million a year has shrunk to only 82 million.
The cuts severely hurt the fight against road accidents.

The price of the cuts
The Green Light Association says that the immediate solution to the problem of road safety in general, and to the danger to cyclists in particular, is to add vehicles and police officers. Increasing deterrence and police presence, the association says, can prevent such accidents, which involve young drivers and drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Increased police presence on the roads will lead to a decrease in the number of traffic offenses and will create a sense of alertness among drivers.
Yaniv Yaakov, VP of the Green Light Association: "This is another bloody weekend on the roads, joining a particularly deadly year. The Ministry of Transport must declare a state of emergency on the roads now! Every day a person is killed and things are accepted with indifference as if we are doomed to pay this heavy price. The government must change its priorities and put saving lives first.
"The national plan to reduce road accidents must be approved soon and budgets taken in recent years must be restored. The traffic police must be strengthened and 200 vehicles and hundreds of police officers must be added. The result of the cuts made in recent years He has the responsibility and the ability to change and save lives. "
