Another unusual incident took place this morning (Monday) in Cannes on the French Riviera, when a man armed with a knife tried to stab a policeman.
The attacker was neutralized by security forces.
The policeman escaped and left without a scratch about the police officer he was wearing, Interior Minister Gerald Dermanin confirmed. Neutralized by gunfire from a third police officer who was in the area.

A police source quoted by local media said that "the perpetrator said he acted on behalf of the Prophet", referring of course to the Prophet Muhammad, which could hint at a possible affiliation of the terrorist to a terrorist organization operating in the area.
As you may recall, stabbing attacks have been widespread in France in recent years and originated with Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists.
However, Interior Minister Dermanin said it was too early to point out the background to the attack.
According to the information held by the authorities, the attacker is an Algerian citizen with a residence visa from Italy who entered France legally and was not under surveillance by the French security services.
