Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has expressed frustration that Lionel Messi has been called up for the Argentina squad for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers despite his injury.
The 34-year-old missed PSG's win over Bordeaux on Sunday as he recovers from "knee and tendon pain" and was also unfit for a league game against Red Bull Leipzig last week.
However, Messi has been called up for games against Uruguay (November 12) and Brazil (November 16), and Leonardo is unhappy with the decision.
"We do not understand how a player who is not qualified to play for us and is in the process of recovery, can join his national team," he told La Parisienne, "it does not make sense and should discuss such a situation with FIFA."
So far since joining the City of Lights luxury club, Messi has played in just eight games in all competitions when his three goals came in the Champions League.
PSG is at the top of the league table with 34 points from 13 games, 10 points ahead of second-placed Lance.
