Hausham - As the clinic announced, the department of internal medicine, gastroenterology and hematology / oncology has been expanded to include a separate focus on diabetology this year under the head physician management of Peter Klare. The new division specializes in the diagnosis and therapy of all common forms of diabetes as well as the treatment of diabetes during pregnancy. “Diabetes is an often underestimated diagnosis. A high degree of qualification and specialization is required for proper treatment, ”says Klare.
The new diabetes center is aimed at patients with a diagnosis of diabetes - and at those whose disease has not yet been discovered: routine screening for elevated glucose levels takes place as soon as they are admitted to the hospital. This is also intended to identify unrecognized diabetes patients and provide them with advice. The idea is to immediately develop a therapy concept that is intended to prevent long-term damage such as stroke, heart attack or amputation from occurring. "Whether due to an acute metabolic imbalance, for the first or new appointment, or for diabetics who are in hospital due to another illness or injury - we treat our patients according to the latest scientific findings," says Constanze Richter, Senior Physician in the Department of Internal Medicine - Gastroenterology ,Hematology / Oncology and Diabetology. "A core principle for us is to involve patients and their relatives directly in the treatment."
According to Richter, the participation of patients and their personal environment is essential, especially with diabetes.
"We diabetologists strengthen the autonomy of our patients and support them to manage their disease independently and according to their possibilities."
In Agatharied, methods such as insulin pump therapy, sensor-based blood sugar measurements or software-based diabetes data management are standard.
In this way, blood sugar values can be read out at the same time, but conclusions can also be drawn about lifestyle habits and taken into account in therapy.
