In implementation of the scientific cooperation agreements between Damascus University and the Arab Center for Studies of Arid Zones and Arid Lands “ACSAD”, today the Faculty of Agriculture launched a workshop entitled “Conservative agriculture and water harvesting.. Effective technologies to adapt to climate changes and reduce agricultural land degradation” with the participation of 100 trainees from postgraduate students. in the college and specialized researchers.
The three-day workshop aims to benefit from the expertise of ACSAD in developing scientific and applied agricultural research, transferring and settling modern agricultural technologies, benefiting from organic waste to produce organic compost, and applying the conservation agriculture system to secure an organic cover that protects the soil from deterioration and erosion, and reducing production and preservation costs. On agricultural resources “soil and water” in arid and semi-arid areas in order to ensure the achievement of sustainable agricultural development.
Dr. Muhammad Firas Hanawi, Vice President of Damascus University for Scientific Research and Graduate Studies, pointed out ACSAD’s efforts to serve agriculture in Syria in particular and the Arab world in general, especially in the practical and applied fields, and to raise the skills of agricultural technicians, educational cadres and students.
Dr. Nasr El-Din El-Obeid, ACSAD Director General, gave a presentation on the organization’s expertise in the fields of conservation agriculture, rainwater harvesting, compost production and organic fertilizers, in addition to plant resources, livestock and pasture rehabilitation.
Dr. Abd al-Nabi Bashir, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at Damascus University, stressed the importance of circulating the results of research and studies of conservation agriculture to support trainee engineers and researchers with a scientific, knowledge and applied base.
