Corona: Thuringia has the highest proportion of Covid in intensive care units in Germany

In addition to the incidence, the hospitalization rate is a new corona warning mark. But even there, the medical association Divi is now sounding the alarm - the situation looks bad, especially in Thuringia, Bavaria and Saxony.

The map of Germany turns dark red again with a view to the number of new corona infections.

And the number of full intensive care beds is also increasing again.

In Thuringia, more than every fifth bed is occupied by Covid-19 patients, 21.2 percent according to data from the medical association Divi.

Nowhere in Germany is the proportion of intensive care beds with corona patients as high as in Thuringia.

According to Divi, only 22 special Covid intensive care beds are free.

Throughout Thuringia, 87.2 percent of the intensive care beds are occupied.

Most recently, Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (left) warned that there could soon no longer be a guarantee for treatment in Thuringia for every unvaccinated corona patient due to the full intensive care units.

The people would be treated, but would have to be relocated to other federal states if necessary.

The Free State is now responding with an initial measure: From this Monday on, tests are mandatory in schools in all districts and urban districts.

Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains: Almost 1,000 cases per 100,000 inhabitants

In addition to Thuringia, according to Divi, there is also a Covid 19 patient in around every fifth intensive care bed in Saxony and Bavaria.

In Saarland, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, however, such sick people make up less than 5 percent.

With a seven-day incidence of 491.3 cases, Saxony is currently the region in Germany most severely affected by Corona, followed by Thuringia with 427.5 and Bavaria with 316.2 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants.

In a district comparison, the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains stands out, with almost 1,000 cases per 100,000 inhabitants within one week (924.3).

Highest value since the beginning of the pandemic

Overall, according to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the incidence rose nationwide to 201.1 - the highest value since the beginning of the pandemic a good one and a half years ago.

The highest value reported by the RKI on a daily basis was reached at the height of the second Corona wave on December 22, 2020 with 197.6.

Unlike a year ago, many people are now vaccinated.

Experts therefore assume that the health system can now withstand more new infections than before.

The vaccinations protect very well against serious illnesses.

Nevertheless, the vaccination rate in Germany is not yet considered high enough to rule out overburdening clinics.

Politicians have been warning of a "pandemic of the unvaccinated" for a long time.
