In June, two German tourists from Munich caused a serious boat accident on Lake Garda.
The two men were driving a motorboat at night on the lake, which is currently popular with German holidaymakers, when they apparently overlooked a wooden boat and drove over it.
Both occupants of the wooden boat, a 25-year-old Italian and her 37-year-old companion, were killed in the accident.
The two people from Munich continued their journey without providing first aid.
They later said they did not notice the incident.

After the incident, the two men first traveled back to Germany. One of the two Munich residents, who claims to have steered the boat, turned himself in to the responsible authorities at the Austrian-Italian border at the beginning of July and has been under house arrest near Modena since then. But the expected punishment for the two men could now be significantly lower than initially assumed.
This is mainly due to the fact that the family of one of the victims is to receive an insurance payment in the millions.

In the end, the sum should have been lower, but still high enough that the criminal prosecution of the two Munich residents is "no longer so important" for the family of the deceased.
According to the report, the payment is made by the insurance company of the boat owner from Munich, who, however, was not behind the wheel in the incident.

According to Italian law, the sentence can be reduced by paying compensation for pain and suffering, which is why the Munich boat owner could get away with a suspended sentence in the process. Lawyer Daldosso stated with a view to the process, which now has an appointment: "Everything is already clear". One man drove and it was his friend's boat, whose insurance would cover the damage.
However, the family of the killed 25-year-olds seem to have a slightly different view of what is happening.
