2021-11-08T19:19:50.840Z

The weather forecast for the next few days promises temporary relief on Thursdays and Fridays with 25-24 degrees, and in some parts of the week even more than 30 degrees • Meteorological service: The sequence of hot days is unusual - but not unprecedented • Half consolation: October-November 1933 was a sequence Of 24 days of burning

Hot and dry and Otto mid-November?

The feeling is no longer surprising: given the high temperatures for the forecast season until the weekend, along with extreme dryness and easterly winds, a special forecast by the Meteorological Service emphasizes the absolute ban on lighting fires in nature reserves and national parks, except in approved parking areas.

In practice, the Nature and Parks Authority states that "due to the conditions, hiking trails (on foot only) in Carmel, the Western Galilee and the Judean Plain have been closed."

According to the forecast, the hot weather will continue in the coming days, with temporary relief on Thursdays and Fridays where about 24 to 25 degrees are expected in the holiday areas.

In any case, we are in the midst of ten days in which - in November - maximum temperatures above 26 degrees are measured.

The relative heat we experience these days prevails in the coastal plain, in the lowlands, in the Negev and in the valleys, and temperatures reach 27 degrees and above, and on some days even more than 30 degrees.

High temperatures are unconventional for this period, and their values are reminiscent of summer, but there are significant differences compared to summer: the length of time during which high temperatures prevail during the day is much shorter, solar radiation is weaker, and the sun sets early with rapid cooling.

The Meteorological Service stressed yesterday that the sequence of these hot days is quite unusual, although not unprecedented and there have been times when we have received similar, longer or warmer sequences.

Thus, for example, November 2019 was characterized by a sequence of 14 days with minimum temperatures that were higher.

A 22-day sequence with more than 25 degrees was in November 2010, and another 10-day sequence was at the end of that month.

Another example is November 2004 with a 12-day sequence, and the same sequence was also in the second half of November 1966. In the second half of November 1962 there was a long sequence of 16 days;

November 1954 - a 10-day sequence in the coastal plain, and longer in the South and the Negev;

November 1946 - a sequence of more than 15 days inland;

And in 1933 - a 24-day sequence from October 27 to November 19 inland (on the coastal plain the sequence was interrupted but there were many days of rain).
