Middle school has a bad reputation.

And teachers from Bergkirchen want to address this.

Her message: Middle school offers many excellent opportunities.

Bergkirchen -

The teachers at the Bergkirchen elementary and middle school currently have 115 protégés under their wings.

The classes are small.

About 15 pupils attend the 6th grade, in the 9th grade there are only 13. During this time, the teachers worry about the continued existence of the secondary school location.

They fear that there are too few middle school students in the not too distant distance.

There are two reasons why the middle school does not enjoy a good reputation, says Klaus Nefzger, class teacher at the M 10: “It is a story of prestige. They always say, what, you just went to middle school? And then it's the parents' fear that there won't be a good job for their child. ”But this way of thinking completely ignores reality, say Nefzger and his colleagues. And they have good arguments to back up their point of view.

First of all, you have to know that the children at middle school can very well attain a higher educational qualification and later take the technical or general high school diploma. Middle school students who want to get started can easily get an advanced degree at schools with the M branch. “If, after the qualification, I manage the vocational training with an average of 3.0 and have English, then I have the secondary school leaving certificate and can go to the FOS or BOS. I don't have to have been to secondary school before, ”says Klaus Nefzger. “The parents are not even aware of what middle school has to offer and what paths they can take,” adds Dinela Pucic (sixth grade). She also went to middle school herself. This was followed by FOS, the Abitur "and now I'm sitting here as a teacher," said Pucic.

Or you do it like Nefzger's nephew. After secondary school he did an apprenticeship in the craft sector at BMW and then his technician. From then on it went like in the 500 hp BMW M4. With the technician degree in their pocket, “they kissed it again at BMW,” said the uncle. At 25, the nephew had a master job - with 14 monthly salaries. "They are now pushing him uphill from BMW," said Nefzger. Most recently, his nephew was in China for six months. And there is one more thing: “What many don't know,” says Gabriele Gruber (2nd grade), “if I do an apprenticeship after secondary school, do it well and then go to the BOS, I can get BAföG, which I can't must pay back. That is a real help. ”Klaus Nefzger also makes a calculation:"If someone attends a private business school, they'll pay around 10,000 euros in school fees by the time they graduate!"

But it's not just the graduation and advancement opportunities or cheap BAföG that make middle school attractive. The Bergkirchen teaching staff consider the class teacher principle to be immensely important and good for their protégés. “It's family-like with us. The students are in very good hands, ”said Katharina Kagerer (fifth grade). In Bergkirchen there are classes with less than 20 students, “I can look closely: who needs what”, says Nefzger, “in the secondary school or high school, one teacher goes out and the next goes in”. Personal support falls by the wayside. “And we see that very critically,” says Nefzger.

Since the secondary schools have an extensive network, the pupils usually find internships with little effort, which often also become their future apprenticeship positions. “I've been here for 20 years,” says Christian Riedlberger (eighth grade). He knows the local companies. And so “we push the children in the right direction”.

After all, the middle school can act like a soft pillow for students who fail in the secondary school or high school, into which they fall.

Many would initially “flood” in higher schools.

According to Nefzger, this was particularly possible in corona times.

But it starts around the eighth grade, says teacher colleague Riedlberger.

“The breakdown comes due to excessive demands.” Some are downright broken.

But they are then caught and raised by Riedlberger, Nefzger and colleagues.

Then the fear also gives way.

Nefzger: “The parents say that if I had known that, I would have taken my child down beforehand.” Sentences like “We only had an argument at home.

But now we have a family life again, ”he hears all the time, says the M 10 class leader.

Info evening of the teaching staff

Under the title “Many paths lead to the goal”, the colleges of the Bergkirchen elementary and middle school are organizing an information evening in the auditorium on Wednesday, November 10th, starting at 7 pm.

There is a panel discussion with former students.

Parents can ask questions and receive advice.
