The North Rhine-Westphalian municipalities are allowed to limit public celebrations at the beginning of the carnival on November 11 to vaccinated and convalescent people (2G).
"Municipalities can, in coordination with the Ministry of Health, order 2G rules if it is deemed appropriate," a spokeswoman for the State Ministry of Health made clear on Monday at the request of the German Press Agency in Düsseldorf.
Düsseldorf / Cologne - Therefore, a general decree requested by the City of Cologne will be approved.
"The Ministry of Health supports the city of Cologne in its endeavors to enable the traditional opening of the carnival, but to react to the significantly increased risk of infection and the situation in the hospitals with increased protective measures," it said as a reason.
There are currently no further applications from other cities.
