The number of new coronavirus infections is cracking through the roof.
The 7-day incidence has reached its highest level since the pandemic began.
Berlin - The corona pandemic has reached a new level in Germany.
The 7-day incidence continued to rise and is now over 200. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the value on Monday morning as 201.1.
That is a new sad record!
In the second Corona wave, that was reached on December 22, 2020 with 197.6.
Corona in Germany: incidence over 200
When looking at the numbers, however, it should be noted that, unlike a year ago, many people are vaccinated. The vaccination rate is particularly high among the particularly vulnerable groups. Booster vaccinations should also break the fourth wave. It remains to be hoped that they will save the health system from collapse. But overall, experts consider the vaccination rate in Germany to be too low. Doctors fear that the number of corona patients in intensive care units will double. Already now, with almost 2,500 cases, just as many corona patients would have to be cared for in the intensive care units as at the same time a year ago with the second corona wave, said Christian Karagiannidis, scientific director of the intensive care register of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (DIVI), the
Augsburger Allgemeine
(Monday).
In the coming weeks, the number is expected to almost double if the new infections continue to rise as before.
"With an incidence of 300, we expect around 4500 Covid patients nationwide with large regional differences," warned Karagiannidis.

Corona in Germany: RKI reports 15,513 new corona infections
In the past 24 hours, 15,513 new corona infections have been recorded at the RKI.
This can be seen from the data on the Covid-19 dashboard.
Exactly a week ago the value was 9658 infections.
In addition, 33 more deaths were recorded (previous week: 23 deaths).
Since the beginning of the corona pandemic, 96,558 people in Germany have verifiably died of or with Sars-CoV-2.
Corona: Incidence of hospitalization
The number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days - the most important parameter for a possible tightening of the corona restrictions - was last stated by the RKI on Friday at 3.91 (Thursday: 3.73).
With the indicator it must be taken into account that hospital admissions are sometimes reported with delay.
A nationwide threshold value from when the situation can be viewed critically is not provided for the incidence of hospitalization, among other things because of large regional differences.
The previous high was around 15.5 around Christmas time.
