Preparations for the “Little Schongau Book Fair” are under way again in the library at Münztor.

From Monday, November 8th, readers can look forward to a wide range of very current media.

Schongau -

"Here you can find everything that is currently listed in the various bestseller lists." Kornelia Funke, head of the Schongau city library at the Münztor, leads to the tables in the library. The first titles for the “Small Schongau Book Fair”, which is due to start on the Monday after the autumn break, have already been placed on these. Reading fans can look forward to the fact that there are also titles that were recently presented at the Frankfurt Book Fair or at the Leipzig Book Fair in spring.

“Everyone is a born runner!” Says the running training book “Simply Running”.

Travel has always been in, even during Corona, said Funke.

This time, among other things, it offers a title on sustainable travel, which has just been published, but the current travel guides won't come out until spring.

The library manager can also recommend “Germany 2050: How climate change will change our lives” by Toralf Staud and Nick Reimer.

On the basis of scientific research, it is described what we will probably be eating in 30 years, how we work and do business and where we will go on vacation.

Will it still be Canada, which this time was the theme of the Frankfurt Book Fair?

Almost 300 new books in the Schongau library

Almost 300 new books are now on the shelves. Including, of course, “Blue Woman”, the novel by Antje Rávik Strubel, which has just been awarded the German Book Prize. “From travel guides, to children's books, to novels and non-fiction, everything is included,” Funke lists. Everything to do with the hangman's daughter must never be missing in the Schongau library. The new Oliver Pötzsch (“Book of the Gravedigger”) has also been on the shelf (for a long time) - even signed. Biographies are always in demand - the new one about Angela Merkel has also arrived. As a true page turner, library employee Traudl Eckl recommends “Where the traces end” by Louise Penny. The new book by Kathy Reichs is also currently being integrated: “The Code of Bones”. "Everyone in the team reads a lot, there are also many suggestions and suggestions for the next book titles, ”says Funke. Of course, recommendations from the library associations are also selected, as are those of the Schongau readership.

The city provides 11,000 euros per year for the library, which also finances 35 magazine subscriptions.

Every year we are happy to receive donations of varying amounts from the Rotary Club Schongau. "That is good," says Funke.

Numerous new books for children

As always, there is a whole range for children - from books for first-time readers to young adults. For readers aged twelve and over, the books are no longer set up in the children's area, but placed separately - close to the adults. Especially in the area of young people's books for 13 to 16 year olds, this also benefits the older readers - “the adults like to take them with them too,” says Funke. The target group does not frequent the library as much as the children do, to the chagrin of the team. “The most diligent readers are the primary school students,” says Funke. There are also reading campaigns for them so that they can get to know the library system, including lending. The visit of two second grades is planned for the near future.

Unfortunately, the picture book cinema is still only online, Funke regrets.

"But it is a good success, it will be watched." For some time now, Hohenfurter Melanie Resch has taken over this offer - only digital due to Corona.

This reading time takes place once a month.

Funke is convinced that “they are all small building blocks to teach reading”.
