Syria and Iran sign an executive program for scientific, cultural and research cooperation

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology signed in Tehran today an executive program for scientific, cultural and research cooperation.

The executive program was signed on the Syrian side by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, and by the Iranian side, Dr. Muhammad Ali Zulfi Gul, the Minister of Science, Research and Technology, in the presence of the Syrian ambassador in Tehran, Dr. Shafiq Diop and the accompanying delegation.

Minister Ibrahim stressed that signing the executive program is important in terms of supporting and promoting scholarships for students at the undergraduate, postgraduate, master's and doctoral levels in terms of their studies and educational attainment in Syrian and Iranian universities.

Ibrahim explained that the executive program includes the establishment of scientific and research programs such as conferences, seminars, workshops, exchange of experiences and professors, in addition to building and preparing human cadres in terms of qualification and training and the establishment of joint research centers, especially that Iran has made advanced strides in the scientific and research field and in the field of nanotechnology and thus benefiting from this Scientific experiment by setting up a technology park at Damascus University or one of the other Syrian universities.

The two sides held talks on ways to develop and enhance cooperation in the scientific and technological field, scientific research, exchange professors, and benefit from Iranian expertise in strengthening the scientific and research sector and concluding scientific and research cooperation agreements between Syrian and Iranian universities.

Dr. Diop stressed that Iran and Syria have potentials that give them a wide scope for strengthening bilateral relations in various fields, stressing the importance of expanding scientific relations between the two countries to include other fields, including scientific cooperation and new technologies, as well as cooperation in the field of student exchange.

For its part, the Iranian side affirmed its full readiness to cooperate with the Syrian side in all fields, especially scientific, research and technological fields.

The Syrian delegation visited Amir Kabir University, which is specialized in the field of engineering and technological sciences, and was briefed on its capabilities and advanced modern laboratories. The conclusion of a scientific research agreement between it and the Syrian universities was also discussed.

The university has allocated some scholarships for Syrian students who excel in their studies.

The Syrian delegation includes Dr. Muhammad Yasar Abdeen, President of Damascus University, and Dr. Aqil Mahfoud, Director of Cultural Relations at the Ministry.
