Rottach-Egern

- Sunday afternoon it was done. A tennis air dome with a snow-white dome and a concise logo is located at the Birkenmoos sports field in Rottach-Egern. “It looks fantastic,” beamed Udo Scherer, chairman of the Rottach tennis club. He and his team quickly succeeded in what had failed time and again in previous years: tennis can now also be played in winter in Rottach-Egern. Operations will start on Monday, November 15th.

Times in the hall with two large seats can be booked online via the association's website, www.tc-rottach-egern.de.

In addition to the members of the tennis club, guests can also secure playing times.

To make this possible, the tennis club and the Aigner-Karner tennis school worked hard.

Peter Aigner and Jernej Karner are Germany representatives of the air dome company Duol.

“At the moment we have the most modern air dome in Germany,” says Scherer happily.

Tennis club handles the construction management on its own

Until then, there was a lot for the volunteers to do.

"Since August, I've been doing nothing other than taking care of the hall," says Scherer.

As reported, work began in September.

Scherer took over the construction management together with Peter Aigner from the tennis school on their own.

Because the loamy soil of the former ash area had to be replaced, there was a slight delay of two weeks.

In the past few weeks, the floors of the two large tennis courts have been laid and anchors have been set that hold the hall with its double membrane.

On Saturday the heavy foil was finally laid out and fastened.

"You need 30 strong people," reports Scherer.

Fortunately, the tennis school, which also operates halls in Gmund, Bad Wiessee and Neuhaus, has a lot of experience.

After six hours of preparation - “a lot of work” - the company's experts were able to start inflating the hall.

“A historic moment,” says Scherer.

Rottach's vice-mayor Sepp Lang and community manager Gerhard Hofmann didn't want to miss it either.

They came to the square to watch the hall grow up.

“We were very pleased,” says Scherer.

New courses are playable all year round

The hall is open until April, after which the two open-air spaces covered by the plastic roof can be used.

The format is enormous: the hall spans 38 by 38 meters.

“The places are really big and also suitable for tournaments,” reports Scherer.

The hall is open every day from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

A double membrane ensures that the players can hit the pitch even in the iciest winter at pleasant temperatures.

Support provided.

After all, the tennis hall increases the attractiveness of the holiday location.

“We also cooperate with the hotels,” says Scherer.

But first and foremost, the hall benefits local tennis fans - and especially the youngsters.
