Damascus, SANA- The Budget and Accounts Committee in the People’s Assembly discussed today the investment budget of the Ministry of Agriculture and Agriculture

Today, the People’s Assembly Budget and Accounts Committee discussed the investment budget of the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform and its affiliated institutions for the year 2022, estimated at 87 billion Syrian pounds.

During their interventions, some members of the committee called for securing production requirements such as fertilizers, seeds and fuels, providing fodder and delivering it to those who deserve it through modern databases, setting a plan to supply cows from the local market, and finding solutions to the issue of smuggling Awassi sheep.

Committee members stressed the need to support citrus cultivation, secure its marketing, take into account production costs in pricing, develop the work of extension units and agricultural statistics, revive the rain seeding project, and pay more attention to biological control.

During his response to the interventions, the Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Engineer Mohamed Hassan Qatna, indicated that there is a plan to rehabilitate citrus cultivation by doubling the production of the plant and introducing improved varieties, indicating that three agricultural planes have been rehabilitated to combat agricultural pests, with two centers for the production of vital enemies.

Qatana pointed out that the agricultural sector's need for fuel will be secured during this month and next in coordination with the Ministry of Oil and according to the needs identified by the governorates' agricultural directorates.

Qatana indicated that work is underway to digitize livestock, support the provision of feed and vaccines necessary for them, implement a number of projects in the field of plant and animal production, support rural development plans, education and training, agricultural guidance and research, explaining that a number of measures have been taken to reduce fires, including early warning, securing tanks and rehabilitating Wells in forested areas, construction of new agricultural roads, and a platform for monitoring fires.
