The state authorities today (Monday) inaugurated the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CCP) which will be held for four days in Beijing.
The Central Committee is attended by over 200 members who change every five years.
The role of the committee is to shape and lead the general policy.
It is the body with the highest authority to choose the identity of the chairman, the equivalent of president or prime minister in Western countries. And founder of the "People's Republic of China".
The new conference in the capital is expected to include a number of decisions around his character and role in the future, as well as a design of most areas of life that will be directly affected by the committee which is expected to end on Thursday.
Earlier this year, in a local vote last year, Communist Party members decided to pass a constitutional reform centering on removing restrictions on tenure as chairman, an unusual move that paved the way for Xi Jinping for another five years and a third consecutive term since being elected in 2013. This vote will take place in April of next year.
Apparently China is one of the only countries in the world where the epidemic has not harmed the leader's power but even increased it: Xi Jinping was perceived as the "savior of the nation" following the alleged takeover of the virus in a country of 1.4 billion people.
