Dances are varied. In addition to the common traditional dances such as ballet, Latin dance, and social dance, the passionate pole dance is more popular nowadays, each with a stick field away.

But have you ever thought that you can practice a good dance without using your feet?

Wheelchair dancer Huang Hezhou (Philip), with his passion and firm belief in dance, broke through his physical limitations. In the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, he won the silver medal in wheelchair dance mixed first-level Latin dance and won the reputation of "Dance King". International competitions promote the concept of caring and harmony.

He has won different awards and is definitely a successful person in the eyes of others. However, behind the success, how many people noticed how much effort he put in?

Try to fall in love with "Wheelchair Dance"

He was diagnosed with polio when he was one year old. Philip's feet began to be unable to walk freely, but his enthusiasm for sports did not hinder him. He tried several sports and was introduced to wheelchair dance by a friend.

"I saw a performance once, and I felt that the performer danced so passionately, so moved, I fell in love with it as soon as I tried it! Another reason I like to dance is "great beauty"!" Philip said with a smile, "No matter the performance or the competition, you can do it. Wearing a well-designed and beautiful battle suit, standing on the stage and becoming the focus of the audience makes people feel particularly confident."

The shiny dance clothes made Philip have a keen interest in dance.

Indomitable overcoming disability

One minute on stage, ten years of work off stage, it takes a lot of effort behind the stage to shine and shine. "In addition to learning to use a wheelchair with a narrow front and a wide rear, the dance steps are more flexible and changeable; simple movements in the eyes of the audience. If you turn around or lean the wheelchair back, it will take a whole year to practice at any time. Approaching the competition period, you will practice eight times a week." But Philip never thought of giving up, "Just hold on to the spirit of perseverance. By believing in your own abilities and bravely accepting challenges, you can transcend physical limitations and can even do better than ordinary people.”

The spirit of hard work allowed Philip to transcend physical limitations, won many awards through dance, and met a group of like-minded friends.

The tacit understanding of the dancers improves the effect

In addition, Philip believes that the tacit understanding with the dance partner is equally important. How to cooperate to make the dance more attractive and emotional requires repeated practice and study.

"Dancing is different from other personal sports. No matter how good the personal skills are, but if you dance with your partner separately, the effect will be greatly reduced." Although it is difficult to find someone who hits it off, a group of unfamiliar partners has grown from a stranger to a common goal. Struggle, the fetters and friendship among them are even more memorable.

Philip believes that the cultivation of tacit understanding is more difficult than the practice of skills.

Barrier-free facilities to facilitate travel

Compared to before, Philip believes that Hong Kong's barrier-free facilities have made great progress.

As society pays more and more attention to the rights and interests of different people, and the continuous advancement of technology, travel is now much simpler.

Philip believes that different public transportation vehicles have also made a lot of efforts to provide barrier-free facilities.

"I have less worries about traveling now, because most MTR stations are equipped with lifts, wide gates, ramps at different locations, and the instructions are very clear; and I can search for a lot of travel information through MTR Mobile, which helps me Plan your itinerary in advance."

Philip believes that the public understands people with disabilities better than ever. Different large companies have also made a lot of efforts in accessibility, so that Philip and other people with disabilities can travel happily and live a wonderful life without hindrance at any time. Life.

In response to this year’s “2021 International Day of Rehabilitation”, the MTR Corporation will use the “Person with a Disability Status” personal Octopus or present a “Person with a Disability Registration Card” on the day of the “Free Ride Ferry Day for People with Disabilities” on November 14. Eligible persons and one accompanying carer provide free ride discounts (except for East Rail Line first-class, intercity passenger service and high-speed rail).
