Russian authorities announced today that a Panama-flagged cargo ship got stuck and split in half near the port of Nakhodka in the Russian Primorsky Territory in the Sea of Japan.
The TASS news agency quoted the press service of the Public Prosecutor's Office for Transport Affairs in the Russian Far East as saying in a statement that 14 people, who are the crew of the Rise Shine, are on board, all of whom have foreign nationalities, and an investigation has been opened into the accident.
While a source in the emergency department in the region told the agency that the ship was split in half and work is now underway to evacuate and rescue its crew members, pointing out that there were shipping containers on board at the time of the accident, while various sources indicated that the ship was 101 meters long and 19 meters wide.
