The ships on the Tegernsee take a winter break.
This is the end of a season that was again overshadowed by the Corona crisis.
The shipping industry draws a mixed balance.
Tegernsee
- The ships on the Tegernsee have said goodbye for the winter break.
At the end of the autumn holidays, the fleet's scheduled services were also temporarily suspended - the timetable for the holidays is only to be partially resumed on Christmas Day.
For operations manager Stephan Herbst and his team, a season is coming to an end that was again overshadowed by the Corona crisis.
Shipping could only start late in the season due to Corona
"The start was again quite sluggish," he says of the beginning of the shipping season, which in any case could only begin late at the end of May.
During the summer months, demand was very good, reports Herbst.
Numerous passengers came on board - a general 3G rule did not apply on the ships, as they belong to the local public transport system.
Only wearing a mask indoors was compulsory.
Most recently, the run on the five Tegernsee ships had noticeably eased.
“In the past three to four weeks we have noticed that there was less going on in the valley,” explains Herbst.
Jetties have to be repaired, ships come to the TÜV
The operations manager and his employees now use the winter break for the usual repair and renovation work.
For example, it is important to bring the jetties around the lake back into shape.
“Some pilots have to be replaced,” explains Herbst.
As every year, the ships themselves are given a beauty treatment.
At least three of the ships are getting a new coat of paint, and some are due for TÜV inspection.
While only one line will be served during the Christmas holidays, operations are to be resumed with more ships from March 26th.
That’s the plan.
"We just have to see what Corona will do by then," says Herbst.
