The second round of the “Tutzing helps in the Mediterranean” fundraising campaign began on Friday evening.

Visitors to the kick-off event were visibly dismayed by reports of the great hardship of refugees - and criticized.

Tutzing

- Many did not expect the development of the “Tutzing helps in the Mediterranean” campaign: “A great, valuable network has emerged beyond Tutzing,” said Tutzing's Catholic pastor Peter Brummer on Friday evening in the Roncallihaus. The opening event for a second round of the fundraising campaign impressively demonstrated how far the circles are drawn by the aid campaign. Representatives of the aid organizations came to Lake Starnberg, some of them from far away.

What they reported about the plight of the many refugees caused obvious consternation among the visitors. In addition, there were current reports about 800 refugees rescued from the German ship "Sea-Eye 4" in the Mediterranean. "But what about the others?" Asked Pastor Brummer. Since there is no end in sight to migration and its dramatic consequences, a great deal of determination was noticeable at the event to intensify the aid as far as possible by continuing the fundraising campaign. In the first round, more than 76,000 euros were received. This money supports the aid organizations "Medical Volunteers", "Lesbos Solidarity," Starfish Foundation "," Lands Aid "and" Three Musketeers Reutlingen "as well as the sea rescuers from" SOS Mediterranée ".

Claus-Peter Reisch from Landsberg is heavily involved in the Tutzing campaign. As the skipper of the “Lifeline”, he rescued hundreds of refugees from the Mediterranean and brought them to European ports. “Not only are births on the rescue ships, but very small children are also brought onto the ships,” he said. And he added: "How great must the need be when you set out with children of this age?" He exclaimed energetically: "You have to get to the causes of the escape!"

It was clear to everyone that money alone would not be the solution. The action was successful, said Pastor Brummer, if you take the amount reached as a yardstick, but even more because of the discussion of the subject: the causes of flight on which flight and displacement are based. Accusingly, the pastor put the question in the room: "Europe, what's wrong with you, what about your Christian character?"

It is all the more invaluable how the Tutzing parish has prepared the way for the relief efforts as a cooperation partner, said Cornelia Janson from the Ecumenical Support Group. She thanked the mayor of Tutzing, Marlene Greinwald, in moving words, who for her part, on behalf of the community, showed all those involved and especially the representatives of the aid organizations "the greatest respect and appreciation" for their considerable personal commitment. All representatives of the aid organizations also thanked the donors and initiators with very personal words. Mayor Greinwald and the Tutzing local councilors “put themselves in the front row”, said Reisch. The “Cities Safe Haven” alliance, which Tutzing has joined, is important, said the mayor, but she showed a lack of understanding: "Where is our government?" It couldn't go on like this, she exclaimed: "I hope we can exert even more pressure."
