- Many people may still have bad memories of the extreme winter of 2019: Thousands of trees buckled, the school was canceled for a week, Jachenau was cut off from the outside world for a few days. When the snow masses melted, it also became clear that the bridge over the Krottenbach near the Sylvenstein reservoir could not withstand the load and buckled. A good one and a half years later, the replacement building is ready, the Tölzer Hütte on Schafreuter can now be reached again without any problems.

In spring 2019, nobody expected that so much time would pass before the replacement building was completed. The financial situation was finally cleared up quickly, and the Federal Association of the Alpine Club soon received a grant. But then the district office asked for a building application, which those involved had not expected. In addition, the search for a suitable construction company turned out to be difficult - the Tölz section of the DAV received only one offer. “Time was running out,” recalls press officer Jürgen van Wahnem. After all, helicopter flights are only allowed in this nature reserve from the beginning of August to mid-November. "And this small time window could not be used." Without a helicopter, however, it would be impossible to bring the steel girders, each weighing 1.5 tons, to the construction site:"After all, they wanted to add more metal so that the bridge wouldn't break again."

Smooth new construction

Finally, all bureaucratic hurdles were overcome. The new building went smoothly in the scheduled time frame. The Lenggries office “OK Ingenieure” supported the project “great” and charged a special price. The Austrian helicopter pilots only had to fly to the construction site four times. Van Wahnem emphasizes: "Special care was taken to complete the construction site with as few flights as possible." On the return flights, the former foundations and all of the old material were flown away so that nothing remains in the creek bed and pollutes the nature reserve. Most of the material and tools were carried to the construction site and back again on seven working days with straps weighing up to 30 kilograms.

Van Wahnem's wish: "The bridge should enable hikers to cross the Krottenbach safely for many years and save them from having to wear wet hiking shoes."
