Charité cancels all plannable operations

The Berlin Charité University Medicine has been canceling all planned interventions since Tuesday.

The increasing number of Covid-19 patients make this step necessary, said a spokesman.

The aim is to use employees more on Covid-19 wards again.

However, emergencies will continue to be dealt with and urgent interventions would also be carried out.

Berlin - According to the spokesman, more than 120 Covid 19 patients are currently being treated in the Charité.

The facility did not disclose how many of them are in intensive care units.

The Charité often treats the particularly difficult cases.

In total, there are 461 Covid patients in Berlin hospitals (as of November 8).

The Charité has already run an emergency program several times in the course of the pandemic to cope with the number of Covid patients.
