But it is difficult to think that Ortega's new mandate is not an illegitimate one. The once-revolutionary has spent the past few years cracking down on dissent. And, in June, he began a coordinated campaign to lock up opposition presidential candidates, journalists, human rights activists and anyone else perceived as a threat to the regime, ahead of Sunday's vote.
