The corona numbers continue to rise rapidly.

There were 112 new infections at the weekend and 32 on Monday. The tightening is already in effect from today.

For children and adolescents, this will mean the end of many sports activities.

District

- As of today, Tuesday, the corona rules for the red hospital traffic light will apply in the district - but not because the district is a hotspot, but because there are tightenings throughout Bavaria. The fourth wave of the pandemic is by no means ebbing in the district: 72 new infections were added on Saturday, 40 on Sunday and 32 on Monday. The numbers are usually lower on Mondays because of the weekend. The seven-day incidence was 254 yesterday and will continue to rise to around 257. Because few cases were on record last week on Tuesday, because little testing was carried out the day before because of the holiday, and this is not the case today, the incidence is likely to rise significantly.

The district office yesterday reported eight more cases from the Caritas home Maria Eich in Krailling (including one case from the staff), two more from the Montessori school Gut Biberkor and five from the financial college in Herrsching.

The situation in the intensive care units is unchanged - seven Covid-19 patients, no free beds.

The red level means no change for gastronomy (3G-plus), for other things such as cultural appointments, 2G applies immediately (only vaccinated or recovered).

And 2G now also applies to the sports sector, which is completely new for children, young people and clubs.

This is how clubs deal with 2G

Hannelore But brings it to the point: "This is a catastrophe," says the chairwoman of TSV Herrsching. The new rule states that 12 to 17-year-olds are only allowed to take part in training and games in the hall if they have been vaccinated or have recovered. In view of the low vaccination rate in this age group, almost synonymous with the end for at least the majority of the youth teams. "There won't be many players left."

A concern that Max Kilzheimer shares. The handball youth leader of TSV Herrsching makes it clear that he currently does not have a precise overview of the vaccination status of children and adolescents. However, the probability is high that the trend - around a quarter are fully vaccinated - is also reflected in the Ammersee club. Kilzheimer would like to use the next few days to get as precise a picture of the situation as possible. “Only then can we seriously discuss how we want to continue.” The 26-year-old is saddened by the fact that the rules could inflict a huge blow on youth sport. “I think every volunteer has been doing his or her best in the past two years to enable the children to do their sport,” he says. Although he understandsthat the health of everyone and the maintenance of school facilities are paramount. "One shouldn't completely forget the leisure aspect either - the children and adolescents long for their old life."

Benedikt Pohlus is also skeptical about the coming weeks. "We try to offer everything that is somehow possible," says the managing director of TSV Starnberg. He cannot say how many youth teams can be maintained. "If only two out of ten players are vaccinated, it will be difficult." The situation in the club's own fitness studio in the Brunnangerhalle is much less problematic. Instead of 3G or 3G-plus as before, 2G now applies there. “It doesn't take anything away from the control effort,” says Pohlus. Athletes with tests have so far kept within limits anyway. The concept of allocating a maximum of ten places per hour and a half by booking online has also proven its worth.

Stefan Diebl is also aware of how devastating the 2G rule could be for youth sports.

"However, we are only the ones who implement the rules," says the spokesman for the district office.

“They are made elsewhere.” And it is precisely there, namely in the state government, that something is evidently happening.

"According to our information, we are currently checking whether there should be a transition period of several weeks for the twelve to 17-year-olds in which they can get full vaccination protection." A sign of hope for the clubs and young athletes in the district.
